Strong winds trigger brief power outages across city
Nagpur: Gusty winds on Saturday evening led to multiple power outages across Nagpur, disrupting electricity supply in majority of parts of the city. According to officials from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL), none of the outages lasted beyond 15 to 20 minutes. The brief disruptions come at a time when residents are already grappling with frequent power cuts due to rising electricity demand amid soaring temperatures. Saturday's sudden weather change, accompanied by strong winds, further strained the distribution network.Localities such as Mahal, Somalwada, Nandanvan, Besa, Narendra Nagar and Vivekanand Nagar reported interruptions in supply during the evening hours. Meanwhile, Manish Nagar area witnessed a longer power cut.An MSEDCL official attributed most of the outages to external factors. "In several areas, tree branches fell on power lines or tangled with cables. In some locations, supply was temporarily shut as a precautionary measure to prevent damage," the official said, reiterating that restoration was carried out swiftly. However, residents questioned the effectiveness of the utility's pre-monsoon maintenance. Many pointed out that even a brief spell of strong winds resulted in outages, raising concerns about the robustness of the infrastructure. While power was restored quickly in most areas, the incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of the city's electricity network to weather-related disturbances.
